Katrina Relief 2005.

Portland Firefighters: Bob Bachelder, Jessica Freire, Sheldon Gregoire, and Gary Plamondon traveled to Slidell, Louisiana, located about 30 miles northeast of New Orleans, to assist the local Fire Department in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.  These volunteers, along with others from around Maine, were given 1 day notice from FEMA, after being selected, and were on the plane the next morning.  For 22 days they assisted by supplementing staffing and working side-by-side as part of the Slidell Fire Department.
